Premier Soccer League Football Club

Jomo Sono’s policy for development has always been to recognize and build upon raw talent. Sono’s team, Jomo Cosmos FC, accentuated and developed a strong youth policy and through the years, has gained a reputation for discovering and developing some of the finest talent to have played in the domestic league, for the South Africa national team and abroad. Under Sono’s guidance, the club went on to achieve several successes, winning the National Soccer League (NSL) in 1987, the Bob Save Super Bowl in 1990, the Coca-Cola Cup in 2002 and 2005 and the SAA Supa 8 in 2003.

To all Jomo Cosmos Football Club Sponsors, Players, Supporters, Staff, the Management, Technical Crew, and all our well-wishers, I want to use this opportunity to welcome you to OUR SEASON OF HOPE.

In view of what happened to this team in the past season (which we have since put behind us), indeed we have a lot to hope for and look forward to, and as we work assiduously towards achieving our objectives for the current season, I implore you all to get behind the team at ALL TIMES.

We knew EXACTLY what happened but we are not revisiting it; rather we are focused on the task ahead, which is to take this team to the NEXT LEVEL. The challenges are there, and we are ready for them. If you don’t confront and surmount your challenges you will never achieve success.

that reminds me of our recent triumph at the inaugural Transversal Cup in Mpumalanga. Winning the pre-season tournament was a turning point for this team. We needed it to boost the morale of our players and set a positive tone for the league campaign.

Having said that, let’s view this success as a good omen for the team going forward.

In the off-season we acquired a total of seven new players to beef up the squad, while we gave clearances to others that are not in our plans for the season.

Amongst our new intakes is Burundi international striker, Kevin Ndayisenga, who signed a two-year deal with us. Similarly, we signed two Namibians, Ananias Gebhardt (wing back) and Denzil Haoseb (midfielder), and centre back Ange Dahou Lebahi joined us from African Warriors.

We also acquired goalkeeper Williams Okpara Junior, and attacking midfielder Franklin Ogbonna, and promoted our young striker from the academy, Amara Kone. At the moment, three players are training with us – Hendrik Somaeb, El Hadj Samb and Xola Moseia, and we’ll be making an announcement on their progress soon.

Players who left us are Sherwyn Naicker, Thabang Monare, Pentjie Zulu, Sibusiso Khumalo, Luyolo Nomandela, Cheslyn Jampies, Ndabenhle Mthembu, Denver Mukamba and Charlton Mashumba.

I think our biggest advantage going into the new season is the fact that we have retained the core of our squad to maintain continuity.

So far I believe we have built a strong team capable of competing in the league, and our aim is to give 120% AT ALL TIMES to ensure we achieve the ultimate – promotion.
