THE HOME OF JOMO COSMOS FOOTBALL CLUB

Jomo Sono’s policy for development has always been to recognise and build upon raw talent. Sono’s team accentuated and developed a strong youth policy and through the years has gained a reputation for discovering and developing some of the finest talent to have played in the league, for the South Africa national team and abroad. Under Sono’s ownership, the club went on to achieve several successes: it won the National Soccer League in 1987, the Bob Save Super Bowl in 1990, the Coca-Cola Cup in 2002 and 2005 and the SAA Supa 8 in 2003.

CHAIRMAN’S CHAIRjomo-sono

My team is here to stay in the Premier League.  I am playing in the PSL; I dont know why people are concerned about us being relegated to the first division.  I am here to stay.  Any team in the PSL, from position 4 downwards can be relegated.  I have scored more than a thousand goals in my playing days.  My sons Bamza Sono and Matsilela Sono jnr follow in my footsteps so my image and and reputation has led soccer fans putting pressure on them to produce the magic I once did.  Unfortunately that did not happen.  My sons played under pressure because there was this “Jomo Sono” cloud hanging over them. When your next door neighbour’s son is a doctor, you cannot expect your son to also become a doctor.  Not all children are the same and comparing them is wrong.  We should let the children embrace their own talent and not pressurise them.  Nevertheless their are good players whom i picked on merit not nepotism.  My youngest son has a lot of potential and can still go far.  It is unfortunate that he missed two beautiful chances against Tuks recently.
