Jomo Cosmos zoomed into the next round of the Nedbank Cup with a convincing 2-0 pounding of Real Kings at Vosloorus Stadium last Sunday.

A first half goal by Charlton Mashumba and a second half penalty by Chibuike Ohizu sealed qualification to the Round of 32 as Ezenkosi utilized home advantage to the fullest.

Cosmos were dealt a huge blow just before the hour mark when Kizito Obi was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Incidentally, the midfielder was roped in at the last minute to replace Riaan Hanamub who failed to recover from an Achilles tendon injury.

But in spite of their numerical disadvantage, Cosmos managed to carve out a win over their adversaries.

It was a follow up win against the same team whom Jomo Sono’s team subdued in a league contest a week earlier at the same venue.

This time however, it was a more convincing performance by the home side despite being a man down following Kizito Obi’s dismissal shortly into the second half.

After both teams struggled to create clear cut chances in a lethargic first half, Mashumba popped up with the opening goal four minutes to half time when he reacted faster to a right wing cross by Vusimuzi Mncube to score his 5th goal of the season.

With a quarter of an hour left to play, Cosmos doubled their lead through a well-taken penalty by Chibuike Ohizu after goal-bound midfielder, Tebogo Mabula was brought down by Sihle Mtshali.

Defenders Sifiso Nkosi and Nkululeko “China” Tshangane made their debuts for Ezenkosi in Sunday’s encounter.

Ezenkosi, which reached the quarter-final; of the Nedbank Cup in 2016-2017, will now join up with the 16 PSL teams and eight from ABC Motsepe League for the Round of 32 draw.
