Jomo Cosmos continued their build up to the start of the new season on Thursday when they lost 1-0 to PSL new boys Baroka FC at Ezenkosi’s training facility in
Young Nigerian shot-stopper, Willams Okpara Jnr distinguished himself in the game,
making some outstanding saves to deny Baroka’s goal-hungry forwards, before making way for Thabo Modiba in the second stanza.
Cosmos Head Coach, Jomo Sono deployed midfield ace, Nkanyiso Madonsela and Mxolisi Macuphu upfront in the absence of newly signed Burundi forward, Kevin Ndayisenga, while Thato Lingwati, captain Frederic Nsabiyumva and Ange Dahou Lebahi started as centre backs in a 1-3-5-2 formation.
In midfield, Wiseman Maluleke called the shots alongside Linda Mntambo, Lifa Hlongwane and the Namibian pair of wing back Ananias Gebhardt and Denzil Haoseb.
It was a compact game that saw little goalmouth action in the first stanza, but Cosmos did come close to breaking the deadlock as Madonsela, Macuphu and Hlongwane missed chances.
Attacking prodigy, Matsilele Sono Jnr later came on to add pep to the Jomo Cosmos attacking flow, but tried as they did, Ezenkosi’s forwards could still not find the back of the net.
Baroka eventually scored the winning goal deep into the last half of the game.
Meanwhile, Cosmos are scheduled to lock horns with Premier Soccer League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns in another high profile friendly encounter on Friday (today), in Pretoria.
