Jomo Cosmos stepped up their build up to this weekend’s NFD fixture when they defeated ABC Motsepe League outfit, FC Palmeros 3-1 in a friendly encounter on Tuesday.
On a sunny afternoon at Ezenkosi’s training facility in Glenesk, the visitors went 1-0 up very early in the game through Shaka Manzini, who found space in the defence to beat Cosmos goalkeeper, Williams Okpara Junior.
Palmeros led 1-0 at the break, but Cosmos rallied back to restore parity through Sdumo Hlongwane, and 10 minutes later, emerging youngster Tebogo “Messi” Tlolane slammed home the second goal to put Cosmos in the lead.
Jomo Sono’s side then made the game safe just before the whistle, when Captain Frederic Nsabiyumva scored from a goalmouth scramble.
Other outstanding performers for Cosmos were Linda “Figo” Mntambo, Tebogo Makobela, Thato Sithole, Sdumo Hlongwane, Thato Lingwati, Nkanyiso Madonsela, and Matsilele Sono Junior, who made several goal-bound moves but was unlucky not to score.
The result is a morale-booster for Ezenkosi after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Milano United in Cape Town last Saturday.
Cosmos have a chance to move up in the NFD table and placate their fans when they host top of the log Mthatha Bucks on Sunday at North West University Stadium.
