Preparations for the impending National First Division (NFD) campaign got more intense on Sunday afternoon as Jomo Cosmos engaged Swazi Premier League side, Green Mamba FC, in a friendly kick-about at their training facility in Glenesk.
The game was one in a series of warm-up matches lined up to prepare Cosmos for the new season as they pursue a rapid return to the Premier League.
Though the visitors ran away with a lone goal victory courtesy of Thabiso Gumbi’s free kick goal deep into the second half, the exercise was well worth it as it gave Ezenkosi boss, Jomo Sono an opportunity to make a further assessment of new signings like Amara Kone, Ange Dahou Lebahi, Franklin Ogbonna, Denzil Haoseb and Ananias Gebhardt.
Starting out with a line up cast in a solid 1-3-6-1 formation, Cosmos ran rings around their opponents in the first half hour but poor finishing was their bane.
The quartet of Matsilele Sono Jnr, Brice Aka, Mician Mhone and Lifa Hlongwane all frittered opportunities after coming close to breaking the deadlock time after time.
However, Ezenkosi’s midfield in the first and second stanza comprising Wiseman Maluleke, Nkanyiso Madonsela, Sibusiso Mdamba, Nhlakanipho Khumalo, Linda Mntambo and Tebogo Makobela, controlled the game for long spells and performed brilliantly in terms of ball possession.
Conspicuously absent from Sunday’s proceedings was newly-acquired Burundian front man, Kevin Ndayisenga, who has reportedly traveled home to process his papers.
The build-up continues on Tuesday morning with the regular weekly training programme.
