Action from Wednesday’s friendly game
Jomo Cosmos and top Mozambican side, UniaoDesportivo do Songoplayed to a 1-all draw in an international friendly game on Wednesday afternoon in Springfield.
Both sides gave a good account of themselves in the grueling encounter that saw plenty of goal mouth action, crunchy tackles and tactical play.
The home side asserted their authority just seven minutes into the match, when attacking wizard NkanyisoMadonsela finished off a blistering move from the left side of midfield to put Ezenkosi 1-0 up.
Cosmos led 1-0 at the break, but the visitors, who were Mozambique Cup champions last season, came back stronger in the second stage, as attacking spearheads Linito and Luis Parkim gave Ezenkosi’s backline a torrid time.
Midway into this half, Parkim drew his team level, beating Cosmos goalkeeper LesegoModiba with a low shot.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period as the result stayed at 1-1.
Head Coach of UniaoDesportivo and former captain of Mozambique’s national team, ChiquinhoConde, said the game was a good test for his team ahead of the new Mozambican season, which kicks off in March.
“Jomo Cosmos really gave us a good game, and for me, it’s an important warm up encounter for both teams. I think the result was a good reflection of how both teams played,” he said.
Conde spent most of his playing career with top clubs in Portugal, and captained the Black Mambas of Mozambique to the Africa Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso in 1998.
