Cosmos return to drawing board after 2-0 setback at Mbombela United

Ezenkosi skipper, Ange Dahou Lebahi

Jomo Cosmos will be picking up the pieces of their NFD campaign after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Mbombela United last weekend.

Two first half goals by Lucky Nguzana and Muzi Zimu in the searing heat of KaNyamazane Stadium saw Ezenkosi losing only their second game of the season.

A faulty clearance by left back Riaan Hanamub gifted Nguzana an easy finish to put the home in front midway through the first half.

Zimu then slotted home the second goal from a counter attack just before the break to put Mbombela firmly in control of the match.

The Cosmos bench rang three changes in the second stanza as Charlton Mashumba, Inky Masuku and Junior Sono came off for Chibuike Ohizu, Xolani Mpontshane and Vusimuzi Mncube respectively, but it proved too little too late as the hosts hung on to their lead until the final whistle.

The defeat plunged Ezenkosi into the bottom half of the league standings with 13 points in nine matches, four points adrift of log leaders Stellenbosch FC.

Cosmos have a chance to redeem themselves when they host basement side, Ubuntu Cape Town FC this weekend in Vosloorus.
