  Cosmos eye double over Aces

Avril Phali © BackpagepixEvery game that Jomo Cosmos play from now will without doubt be viewed as a six pointer within the football fraternity as the Absa Premiership goes into the home straight.

It has not been an easy season for Cosmos despite an early promise and good performances in games that should have been in the bag, but sadly, lost despite taking an early lead in some of them.

On Saturday Cosmos come up against Mpumalanga Black Aces in a key encounter billed for the Puma stadium in Witbank, Emalahleni.

Kick off is at 3.30pm.

The first round meeting between the two sides saw Ezenkosi emerge victorious in a game they hosted. That has been Cosmos’ only win so far this season and this second round match could again be the turning point.

Avril “Chawe” Phali and company are aware of the heavy task at hand and have vowed to fight to the bitter end.

“We actually need to win at least seven of the remaining games to stay up and we are determined to do that. Our games have been a story of good football but no results. We believe we can turn that around because we have been in this position before and we know what’s needed to keep afloat. We have to fight like soldiers and we will do that.

“Aces may be just what we need to turn the corner. We have been hampered by the fact that we have not been able to keep the same starting line-up for more than two or three games because of injuries and suspensions. That is why we have had to rely on fielding inexperienced youngsters and they had to learn and adjust at a faster pace than was intended. They have learnt quickly I must admit but being thrown into the deep end at an early stage may at the same time affect the growth of a player,” Phali said.

He pointed out that it was now up to the stalwarts to stand up and be counted. That means the likes of midfielder Bamuza Sono, El Hadji Samb, Lucky Mhlathe, Thapelo Tshilo, Thabiso Hlalele should raise their hands and take the team out of the morass that it presently finds itself in.

With exciting youngsters like Bongani Theletsane filling the role of playmaker, the likes of Sekou Camara can rattle the net as he has shown he is capable of doing.

Phali has made a passionate plea to Ezenkosi followers to come in droves to give the lads the necessary support during this crucial stage.
