It is all or nothing for Jomo Cosmos in last game

Siza Dlamini © Gallo ImagesJomo Cosmos go into the last game of the 2009/10 Absa Premeirship season against Moroka Swallows with everything to play for and the players have promised to give the opposition a torrid ninety minutes.

This game will be played at the Dobsonville stadium in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.

Kick off is at 3.15pm.

Being a point behind fellow relegation candidates, Mpumalanga Black Aces who are on 25 points going into the final match, makes it even more critical that Ezenkosi beat Swallows to stand a chance of snatching a play-off spot while hoping their rivals go down in their game against Ajax Cape Town at the same time.

“It’s nothing short of a win”, says Avril “Chawe” Phali Cosmos’ capatain and goalkeeper.

“This must rate as the most important game of the season for us and we are going to give our all, like never before. We know Swallows are a good team and we have read in the media that they say there will be no mercy for us on the day.

Look we are not looking for any mercy from anybody because this is football and we know what is expected of us.

We have been written off by nearly everybody except those who know the real nature of the game. At the end of the day it will be eleven against eleven and we know at this stage that we are the hungrier lot. This game is about, us, our families, our supporters and most of all the club’s future.

“We are aware of what is at stake and we going into the game with an attitude, never seen in local football before. It’s like a cup final and Swallows should come prepared for a torrid afternoon where no quarter will be given nor taken. We do not need prisoners and are not going to take any. Our supporters and football followers in general should not miss this one.”

Earlier in the week, another senior citizen at the club, Bamuza “Scara” Sono, pointed out that it is up to players like him, Phali, Lucky Mhlathe, Thapelo Tshilo, Thabiso Hlalele, Siza Dhlamini and other club stalwarts to encourage the new and younger ones who may be feeling the pressure.

“There is tremendous pressure to do well against Swallows this weekend, especially with Siyabonga Nomvethe doing so well. We will have to keep a watchful eye on him. Young player could crumble under pressure if we are not careful and it’s up to us senior players to talk to them.

There are so many games that we drew that we should have won, but after our game against Mamelodi Sundowns, we are optimistic that we can do well against Swallows.”

Andrew “Jaws of Life” Rabutla believes the boys are up to it and can get a positive result against the Birds.

“A draw wont be good enough for us here. It is either we win or nothing and the boys are aware of this and are up to it. One could see that at training and we are optimistic we are going to pull it off, that is if the other result also goes our way.

We won't dwell into that at the moment because it will do us no good to look at that game while we also have a job to do. That is our priority, to collect full points against Swallows.”

Only Mhlathe is unavailable for this game because of suspension and his place could be taken by Gladwin Shitolo who missed the Sundowns match.

Finding the back of the net will be crucial in this encounter and realising that, guys like Sekou Camara, Norman Smith and Dhlamini have been the focu at training and already look sharp and ready for the battle of Dobsonville.
