No financial details of the deal were revealed by the club which finished fourth from bottom last season just avoiding relegation on the final day of the season, according to Sapa-AFP.

The 28-year-old began his career in Zambia and South Africa before heading to Europe in 2007 when he signed for Norwegian side Brondby. He moved to Arminia Bielefeld in Germany in 2008.

Katongo made his international debut for Zambia in 2003 and has scored 11 goals in 51 appearances.

His brother Felix, who currently plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, is also a Zambian international.

Katongo will best be remembered for his goal-scoring exploits during his days with Ezenkosi in the Premier Soccer League, especially when he scored 15 goals in 15 games and came back 15 games later to claimthe golden boot award as no other striker locally could catch up with the goals he scored before leaving for Brondby in Denmark.

Meanwhile Cosmos start their pre-season training today (Thursday) and are prepared to fight their way back into the PSL after the team’s relegation to the National First Division last season.
