Ezenkosi cling on to 3rd spot despite goalless stalemate at Royal Eagles

Jomo Cosmos maintained their third position on the NFD log after holding Royal Eagles to a goalless draw at Harry Gwala Stadium, Pietermaritzburg at the weekend.

The game had all the trappings of a classic though no clear cut chances were created in the opening half of the game.

However, Cosmos were presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock midway through the second stanza, but substitute Sphesihle Nzimande missed from the penalty spot.

The Cosmos bench introduced Matsilele Junior Sono and Nkanyiso Zungu in place of Tebogo Tlolane and Tebogo Mabula late in the game, but this had little impact as both sides settled for a point apiece.

The result left Ezenkosi at no. 3 with 43 points in 27 matches, a point behind Black Leopards who lost 0-2 at Witbank Spurs.

With three matches left in the pursuit for a play-off spot, Cosmos will be eyeing maximum points when they visit basement side Mthatha Bucks this weekend.

JOMO COSMOS: K Ndlovu – Laqwela. Rasilingwane, Lebahi, Gebhardt – Haoseb (Capt), Sibeko, Makobela, Tlolane (Jnr Sono 78’), Mabula (Zungu 83’) – Hlongwane (Nzimande 46’)
