Jomo Cosmos Captain, Linda “Figo” Mntambo says the team showed courage and determination while dispatching Black Leopards in last Sunday’s explosive NFD encounter in Vosloorus.
Ezenkosi zoomed into the top three following a dramatic second half that saw the team claiming a deserved 2-1 victory, in what the skipper attributed to strong character, intent and hunger.
Figo restored parity with only 20 minutes left, and just when everyone thought the game was heading for a stalemate, Sicelo Mkhize struck to win the game for Ezenkosi.
“I think it was all down to the mentality of our players. We trailed 1-0 at half time but went into the second half determined to turn the table, and that’s what we did.
“It was a great team effort from the lads and I have to commend everyone for giving their 100 percent.
“It was a hard fought win; kudos to both teams for a great game. We had to dig deep because we realized that winning is the only way to keep our top three hopes on track,” he reflected.
Figo, who recently made a century of appearances for Jomo Cosmos, added: “Personally I think my contribution in the game was okay, at least I scored a goal, but I guess I can do so much more to uplift the team.”
He assured Ezenkosi fans of better days ahead as the team continues its quest to return to the Absa Premier League.
“Obviously the next target is to get a good result in our next game in Stellenbosch. We respect them as one of the top teams in the Nfd, and it’s going to be difficult but we’ll give it our best shot,” he said.
Cosmos currently sit third on the NFD standings with 17 points from 10 matches, two behind leaders Highlands Park, and one adrift of second placed University of Pretoria.
