Cosmos team against Cape Town All-Stars: Standing (L-R)

Jomo Cosmos failed to win their fourth NFD game on the trot when they were held goalless by a gutsy Cape Town All Stars at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon.
A mild drama had ensued prior to kick off, as Ezenkosi defender AngeLebahi, who was originally in the starting line-up was dropped after the visitors threatened to file a protest against the player, who had allegedly signed a pre-contract agreement with the Cape Town outfit in the off-season.
Lebahi’s forced omission appeared to have truncated his team’s original game plan, as TumisangMashele was drafted in at right back, while TebogoMakobeladropped back in a deeper role.
The visitors came into the game lying in 15th place on the log, and seemed intent on stealing a point from the game. In the end they achieved their objective although they did enjoy a little bit of luck due to Ezenkosi’s profligacy in front of goal.
MatsileleSono Junior started his first game for Cosmos this season, and combined well with Linda Mntambo, DenzilHaoseb and Tebogo “Messi” Tlolane to feed front men MxolisiMacuphu and Kevin Ndayisenga.
The Burundian had a few half chances, but was largely held at bay by the All Stars defence, until he was replaced by Wiseman Maluleke on the hour mark.
Ten minutes later, fellow sub XolaMosiea almost broke the deadlock after receiving a through pass from Sono Junior, but fired the ball sky high.
With only four minutes remaining, the visitors launched a dangerous counter-attack, and could have run away with a rare victory, but Cosmos goalkeeper Ramakgasha saved Phetso Maphanga’s goal-bound shot.
The result kept Ezenkosi in second place after AmaZulu lost at home to Stellenbosch.
Earlier in the day, Jomo Cosmos reserves thrashed Lethabo FC 4-1 in a curtain-raiser. Cosmos rallied back to restore parity through Karabo “Shakes” Mkhabela after going a goal down. Hendrik “Ballack” Somaeb put Ezenkosi in the lead at half time with a long range effort.
Cosmos then added two more goals in the second stanza as Amara Kone and Mtokozisi “Boika” Msomi hit target.
