As the clock ticks towards this weekend’s much anticipated kick off of the National First Division (NFD) campaign, Jomo Cosmos defender, Thato “Wyser” Lingwati says the team is determined to make a strong start in its quest for automatic promotion and put all other contenders on the back foot.
Ezenkosi square up against Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium on Saturday afternoon and the recent Bafana Bafana call up is hoping his team takes the maximum points and start off the season on a promising note.
“A good start is very vital to our pursuit of automatic promotion,” said Lingwati, who was withdrawn from the local Bafana Bafana camp ahead of the league fixture.
“We missed out on the promotion race last season, which was very disappointing, but this time we need to push harder and build a strong momentum right from the start.”
He expressed satisfaction at the caliber of players so far signed by the team, and hoped the new boys will contribute immensely to Ezenkosi’s aspirations this season.
“I think we have jelled with the new intakes, they are young, promising and hungry for success, so I think we are ready to take on the rest,” the 25-year-old centre back added.
Meanwhile, Cosmos could be missing as many as four regulars in Saturday’s encounter as former Captain Frederic Nsabiyumva and Zambian veteran Clifford Mulenga are serving a one-match suspension each.
Also out of the fray is new team Captain, Linda “Figo” Mntambo who will be on international duty with Bafana Bafana in Ndola, Zambia on Saturday.
Attacking midfielder and last season’s Cosmos player of the year, Tebogo “Messi” Tlolane had already been ruled out with a serious groin injury.
Saturday’s game at Makhulong Stadium kicks off at 15h00.
