Lingwati turns hero as Cosmos come twice from behind to snatch a point against Leopards

Thato Lingwati saved Jomo Cosmos from the brink of home defeat last Sunday when his last-minute header salvaged a point for Ezenkosi in a thrilling play-offs contest against Black Leopards in Vosloorus.

Ezenkosi came twice from behind to tie the game at 2-2, a result which meant Black Leopards stayed at the top of the NFD/PSL mini-league play-offs with four points from two matches while Cosmos are second with one point.

A near-capacity Vosloorus Stadium was agog with ecstatic fans who witnessed end to end football action.

It was always going to be an uphill task for the home side after they went behind 12 minutes from kick off when red-hot striker Mwape Musonda fired Lidoda Duvha in front.

That gave the visitors the impetus to surge forward in search of more goals.

But it was the hosts who got a breakthrough five minutes later when a howler by Leopards goalkeeper, Rotshidzwa Muleka allowed Cosmos back in the game after saving Ismail Mgunda’s attempted shot at goal from Tebogo Makobela’s corner kick.

Both teams went into the break tied at 1-1.

On resumption of hostilities, Leopards showed more attacking intent, stretching the Cosmos backline to its limits, and it was no surprise when Musonda cracked home his brace after receiving a defence-splitting pass from Meshack Maphangule.

Two minutes later, the Cosmos bench rang a few changes that saw Nigerian midfielder Kizito Obi replacing Tebogo Makobela while Lefa Hlongwane made way for Zambian stalwart Clifford Mulenga.

Tebogo “Messi” Tlolane also came on board moments later to add spice to Ezenkosi’s forward line, and this seemed to have instant effect as the Cosmos attack suddenly came to life.

The incessant forays from Cosmos forwards finally paid off in the last minute of added time when Lingwati rose highest above Leopards defenders to nod home Mulenga’s well-timed cross.

Cosmos have a chance to go top of the log when they visit Platinum Stars at Moruleng Stadium on Wednesday night.
