Jomo Cosmos fought back to salvage a point against University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) in their NFD clash last Sunday in Vosloorus.

The visitors seemed to be running away with a rare victory after Diego Franco converted a penalty kick early in the second half, but Ezenkosi turned the game around to snatch a well deserved equalizer through second half substitute Charlton Mashumba.

Cosmos should have buried their opponents in a rather one sided first half but failed to take glaring chances as both teams went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.

AmaTuks came back stronger after the break and attacked the Cosmos defence at will.

Their efforts paid off in the 53rd minute when referee Thozozani Mkhize awarded a soft penalty after Ezenkosi midfielder, Seun Ledwaba was adjudged to have upended substitute Zithulele Mhlontlo illegally.

Diego Franco stepped up and neatly tucked in the kick to end goalkeeper Mwenya Chibwe’s fine run of five successive clean sheets.

The Cosmos bench responded swiftly with three substitutions that saw Sono, Masuku, and Hanamub paving way for Mncube, Mashumba and Tshawe.

Sono’s changes seemed to have instant impact on the game as Cosmos increased the tempo and piled pressure on the visitors.

With 15 minutes left to play, a well-struck free kick by Bafana Tshawe was spilled by AmaTuks goalkeeper Johnny Mathole, allowing a lurking Mashumba to finish off the rebound as Cosmos restored parity.

Further efforts by both sides to snatch a winning goal were fruitless as they shared the spoils.

The result stretched Ezenkosi’s unbeaten run to six matches but also ended a clean sheet streak of five consecutive matches as Cosmos remained 5th on the standings with 13 points, three points behind new log leaders Stellenbosch.
