Ezenkosi midfield general, Linda “Figo” Mntambo remains upbeat that the team is on course to deliver on its objective of winning promotion to the elite league despite trailing log leaders Thanda Royal Zulu by a massive after 24 matches.
After putting up an outstanding individual performance in the midweek defeat of championship aspirants Black Leopards in Tsakane, Figo said the victory was not only long overdue, but creates a veritable platform to launch a serious challenge for a top three finish.
“Beating Leopards was very important though it was always going to be tough playing against any team in the top three. But we felt concerned at half time with the score at 0-0. The coach told us the game’s in our hands, so we went all out because we haven’t won in our last three games.
“So, yes, it was a welcome win, but even more importantly, it creates that platform for us to re-launch our objective and take us back where we belong.
“I think we stand a good chance of making the play offs because aside having a game in hand, we have a knack for doing well against the top teams,” he asserted.
Figo boasts 22 league starts and two goals so far this season, and was arguably the Man of the Match against Leopards on Wednesday, scoring the opening goal and providing the assist for the second.
