Linda Mntambo says he is more than thrilled following his call up to the local national squad ahead of next weekend’s Chan 2018 qualifier against Zambia.
“I was very excited getting a call up to the national team because it’s every player’s dream to play for his country.
“Really it doesn’t get better than this. Can’t say it’s long overdue but with all the performance that I’ve put in over the past couple of seasons it was bound to come someday,” he stressed.
Figo’s former teammates, Thabang Monare and Thato Sithole were accorded similar recognition just before Ezenkosi were relegated to the First Division in 2016, and the Cosmos skipper reflected on that as well.
“When I played with Thabang and Thato they were invited to Bafana Bafana and that gave me hope that someday I’ll get similar opportunity to wear the national team colours,” he said.
Mntambo joined Cosmos from Roses United FC in 2014, and has made over 80 appearances for Ezenkosi in the past three seasons.
