Mntambo scored Ezenkosi’s 2nd goal, his 4th of the season
Witbank Spurs pulled out the stops in a second half spell to deny Jomo Cosmos the maximum points in a thrilling NFD contest that ended two goals apiece last Saturday.
Fans at the Puma Rugby Stadium were served a delicious menu of attacking football as both sides matched each other blow for blow.
Despite having Head Coach, Belden Mafu sent to the stands by referee Victor Gomes for contesting a decision prior to half time, Spurs came out stronger after the break.
Ezenkosi had raced into a 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes of the game thanks to a coolly converted penalty by Frederic Nsabiyumva and a scorching volley by Captain Linda Mntambo.
But the visitors lost steam right from the opening minute of the second stanza, allowing Siyavutha to pull a goal back through Moses Raphelele.
Things went from bad to worse for Jomo Sono’s men following an injury that forced key midfielder Silas Maziya out of the game.
Spurs capitalized on this yawning gap and increased their attacking momentum.
Their constant forays finally paid off deep into the second half when substitute Innocent Shabalala fired a low left footed shot past the outstretched arms of Cosmos shot-stopper King Ndlovu.
Interestingly, both sides had played out a similar result at the same venue last season.
The result took Cosmos to second spot on the NFD standings with 22 points from 13 matches, three shy of log leaders Highlands Park.
