Thanda maintain NFD pole position, beat 10-man Cosmos 2-0

Linda Mntambo

Thanda Royal Zulu went six points clear at the top of the National First Division (NFD) after recording a comfortable 2-0 victory over hard-fighting Jomo Cosmos in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday afternoon.

A goal in each half by Siduduzo Dlamini and Jabulani Ncubeni at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex, saw off Jomo Sono’s men as Amabhubesi won their sixth home game on the spin.

Ezenkosi were dealt a fatal blow midway into the second half when Ivorian defender, Ange Dahou Lebahi received his second yellow card and was subsequently sent off for a foul on goal-bound Thanda Royal Zulu striker, Mhlengi Cele.

After trailing 1-0 at the break, Cosmos returned for the second half battling hard to restore parity as Linda Mntambo, Matsi Sono, Tebogo Tlolane and Tebogo Makobela combined well upfront to create chances but Thanda’s goalkeeper was up to the task as he foiled all goal-bound efforts.

Ezenkosi boss Jomo Sono, revved up his attack by introducing the pair of Wiseman Maluleke and Kevin Ndayisenga in place of Lefa Hlongwane and Matsilele Sono Jnr respectively, but the home side held on to claim all maximum points and extend their lead at the summit.

Last Sunday’s defeat saw Ezenkosi slip down to 9th on the NFD log with 16 points from 12 matches.

Cosmos’ next league fixture comes up against basement team, Magesi FC next Sunday, 4th December at Ezenkosi’s Olen Park Stadium home ground.

COSMOS: Clement Ramakgasha – Sipho Mngomezulu, Thato Lingwati, Frederic Nsabiyumva (Captain), Ange Lebahi – Denzil Haoseb, Linda Mntambo, Tebogo Makobela, Tebogo Tlolane, Matsilele Sono Jnr (Kevin Ndayisenga 73’) – Lefa Hlongwane (Wiseman Maluleke 53’).
