Jomo Cosmos slumped to their second defeat of the current NFD season after going down 3-1 to Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday afternoon in Cape Town.
The Capetonians raced to a stunning two-goal lead within 10 minutes of kick off when Tshepo Mabua and Diego Brown scored.
Stellenbosch led 2-0 at the break, and although Cosmos fought back in the second stanza, it was the hosts who struck again through Stanley Muishond to make it 3-0 to the home side. Cosmos later reduced the deficit when veteran Ivorian striker, Brice Aka converted a penalty for his second goal of the season.
However, there was a dramatic end to the game as a tale of red cards and a missed penalty dominated the show.
Stellenbosch’s Junaid Sait and Ezenkosi’s Brice Aka received their marching orders from Referee Bafana Mosia in separate incidents to reduce the teams to 10 men each, and in the first minute of added time, Stellenbosch fluffed the chance to score their fourth when Stanley Muishond missed from the penalty spot.
The result left Cosmos plunging down to 7th place on the NFD log with 12 points from eight matches, while the Cape side leapfrogged Ezenkosi into second position.
Ezenkosi continue their NFD campaign this weekend with a tricky home game against 4th-placed Witbank Spurs at Olen Park Stadium.
