With the second half of the season kicking off in less than four weeks, Jomo Cosmos captain, Frederic Nsabiyumva says the team’s ultimate objective is to get automatic promotion to the PSL by winning the NFD Championship.

“That may look like a tall order, but I believe we can achieve this because we have put our mistakes behind us and we are focused on making the best of the situation,” said the 21-year-old centre back.

“We are ready for the challenge, and luckily everyone is available, we are preparing very hard. We have enough time to prepare before our next game. It is time we switched on and attain some level of consistency. We need to compete, and our target, ultimately, is to finish the season as number one in the NFD.

He blamed Ezenkosi’s lack of consistency, which saw the team ending the first stanza in 5th position, on failure to adapt to new settings after getting relegated at the end of last season.

“We dropped crucial points at home by drawing against FC Cape Town, Cape Town All-Stars, and Real Kings. Personally I think we failed to win those matches because we knew very little about these teams. They were like close books, so it was very difficult.

“Having said that, I feel we are now too familiar with them and armed with better strategies this time, we’ll be more than ready when we play them again,” stressed the Burundi international.

Cosmos resume their NFD campaign on 11 February with an away fixture against Mthatha Bucks.
