Jomo Cosmos intensified their build up to this weekend’s NFD fixture when they edged Mozambique defending league champions Uniao Desportiva do Songo 3-2 in a friendly game in Springfield on Tuesday.
In the exciting encounter played over three periods, Ezenkosi dominated play for long spells against the Mozambicans, displaying some grit combined with fluidity and potency in attack.
But it was the visitors who opened the scoring in the first stanza when Chelito’s long range effort zoomed past Ezenkosi goalkeeper, Davies Modiba.
Cosmos came back stronger in the second period and restored parity through a direct free kick converted by Denzil Haoseb.
Frederic Nsabiyumva then put Ezenkosi in the lead with a sublime header before Helder Pelembe tied the score in the third period.
However, the hosts would later take the game when South Africa U20 star, Bafana Tshawe connected Mpumelelo Zondi’s pass for the winning goal.
Meanwhile, Ezenkosi has acquired the services of two young midfielders, Kagiso Ndlovu from the University of Football, and Baberwa FC’s Mpumelelo Zondi.
This follows the recent signing of Nkanyiso Zungu on loan from AmaZulu for the rest of the season.
Cosmos continue their NFD campaign with a trip to Durban to face Uthongathi FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
