Jomo Cosmos will be hosting a 12-team youth soccer tournament this weekend at its training grounds in Springfield, Rosettenville, near Rand Stadium, Johannesburg.
Tagged ‘Jomo Cosmos Super-12 Tournament,’ head of Youth Development, Bamuza Sono, said the competition will be played on January 28 and 29, and only boys in the U19 and U17 categories are eligible.
No less than 30 academies spread across Gauteng Province, the North West and Eastern Cape have so far signified their intention to participate in the two-day event, but the number will be pruned down to accommodate a maximum of 24.
According to the organizers, prizes to be contested for include a trophy and gold medals for the winners in each category, and silver medals for the runners-up in each category, while the Special achievement awards include Player of the tournament, Top goal scorer, Most promising player, Goalkeeper of the tournament, as well as Coach of the tournament.
Last October at the Nike Centre, Cosmos Under19 side emerged overall champions of the Soweto League after beating Orlando Pirates in the play-off final.
