In spite of last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Highlands Park, Jomo Cosmos owner and Head Coach, Jomo Sono insists his team will be top contenders for promotion as the season progresses.

“I think we have a fair chance of winning it (promotion) this time in spite of the defeat in Tembisa. We were missing six of our regular players either due to suspensions, injuries or uncompleted papers. But we hope to get them back for our next game,” he disclosed.

Ezenkosi dominated a fiery second half against the Lions of the North at Makhulong Stadium and created a plethora of chances, but could find no way past experienced shot stopper Tapuwa Kapini, but the former Bafana Bafana boss is not losing sleep.

“They (Highlands) had only one shot at goal in the entire second half. We outplayed them in every department but couldn’t translate this into goal. We are working on the grey areas and soon we should get the team back into proper shape,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction at his new signings so far, and stressed the significance of teamwork ahead of a long and arduous season.

“I was impressed with our new signings on the field against Highlands Park. Individually they are top notch but we also need to emphasize on the importance of team cohesion,” he stated.

Cosmos host University of Pretoria in their second NFD game of the season next Sunday in Vosloorus.
